International Festival of Arts & Ideas Director Paul Collard has been contacted by a Baltimore group that seeks to create a similar event in the land of the oriole and soft-shell crab. Collard says the person who contacted him learned about his exploits in Editor Michael Bingham's “Businessperson of the Year” article about Collard (BNH, January 22), although it is unknown exactly how the group came across the publication. “They wanted me to get on a plane right away and come down to talk with them,” Collard says. The 2001 New Haven festival will be Collard's last, and the affable Englishman had said he would return to his native land with his wife and four children following the event. For now, at least, “That's still the plan,” he says.
