NEW HAVEN - Freshnex.com has shed 15 percent of its workforce, or nine of 60 employees. The company, which distributes seafood and other perishables to mostly wholesale customers via the Internet, was last month honored as “Innovator of the Year” by Business New Haven. In published reports Freshnex CEO Gregory R. Belanger said the layoffs were unrelated to woes affecting many companies in the dot.com sector. He maintained that Freshnex sales have been growing at a monthly pace of 20 percent, and that the downsizing was intended to make the company more attractive to investors.
