Sports-Injuries Rise for Boomers

| NEW HAVEN - Baby-boomers (people between 37 and 55) are exercising more - which is good. But many end up in hospital emergency rooms suffering from sports-related injuries, according to Yale orthopaedic surgeon Robert A. Stanton, M.D. Stanton says most injuries are relatively minor, but they add - nearly 90,000 bruises and sprains in one year nationally, a 42-percent increase in just the past decade. The injuries largely stem from bicycling, running, skiing and in-line skating. Stanton notes, however, that The majority of these injuries are preventable, by following preventative steps such as warming up, wearing bike helmets
