Journal Register Company Acquires Main Street News

TRENTON, N.J.-Journal Register Company (NYSE:JRC) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert M. Jelenic announced today the Company's acquisition of the assets of the Essex, Connecticut-based Hull Publishing, Inc., which includes one weekly newspaper and two annually produced magazines. Main Street News, a 5,000-circulation weekly newspaper, serves Lyme, Old Lyme, Chester, Deep River Essex (including Ivoryton and Centerbrook), Old Saybrook and Westbrook; and two annually produced magazines with total distribution of approximately 20,000, The Newcomer's Guide, a resource guide for new or prospective residents to the Valley Shore area, and The Curious Tourist, a year-round tourist guide to the Lower Connecticut River and Shoreline areas.
Hull Publications, Inc. is a privately held company, which reported total revenues of approximately $600,000 for fiscal year ended May 2001. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Journal Register Company's Connecticut Cluster consists of five daily newspapers, including the New Haven Register, Connecticut's second largest daily and Sunday newspaper, and 73 non-daily publications with total distribution of approximately 1.7 million.
