TRUMBULL - Two years ago Frank Metrusky and Barry Diamond decided that Trumbull needed a chamber of commerce that focused exclusively on businesses in Trumbull. An organization that, as Metrusky puts it, was not subordinate to a larger organization.
Metrusky (who today serves as president of the chamber) and Diamond gave the project the initial impetus and, after a little more than a year, the Trumbull's Chamber of Commerce has been well received, with approximately 80 members and an ambitious program schedule for the remainer of the year.
Our goals are to help businesses in Trumbull improve their bottom line, says Metrusky. We've planned a very full schedule of programs for the year. We started a small office/home office program which meets monthly for those people who have small offices or work at home. The programs cover marketing, business plans, managing cash flow and other topics aimed at the small-business owner.
Other monthly programs include business-education workshops, networking events and a leads group.
An example of a program to help member businesses raises their visibility was a media conference, held last spring, that focused on print media. That's an example of what Metrusky says he wants to continue to bring to the new chamber.
