NEW HAVEN - Diva Fiore, a European-style flower shop, has opened at 93 Whitney Avenue. The business is owned by Donna Rapino, who hopes to educate people about simple bouquets, the type commonly found in the European flower markets. By stocking buckets of flowers as reasonably priced as possible, Rapino believes she can get people in the habit of picking up flowers just to make them feel good. A floral designer for six years, she studied in London with Paula Pryke and also studied art and art restoration in Italy. Rapino has owned a landscaping business for 20 years.
Rapino also creates large arrangements for weddings and other functions and carries plants, including topiaries, one of her special occasions. The shop also has a variety of vases and gift items. “I think New Haven is ready for a renaissance, and I want to be a part of it, or lead it,” says Rapino. “Diva Fiore will always be changin;, there will always be something different.” The shop is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and Saturday by appointment.
