The southern Connecticut chapter of the Public Relations Society of America has elected the following individuals to its 2001 board of directors: Russell Barclay, associate professor, Quinnipiac University School of Communications, Hamden, becomes president, succeeding Francis Onofrio, president, Mason & Madison Public Relations, New Haven. Bonnie Winchester, public information officer for the New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation & Trees, New Haven, is president-elect. Marge Kuhlmann, director of public affairs for the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, is vice president. Carol Pompano, public relations manager for Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut, was elected treasurer. Tehan E. Skully, account manager at Mascola in New Haven, becomes secretary. Renee Hughes, public relations specialist for MWR Marketing, Naval Submarine Base, was selected as membership chair. Members-at-large are: Wilson Camelo, senior account executive, Mason & Madison Public Relations, New Haven; Mary B. Ingarra, corporate communications specialist, Yankee Energy System, Meriden; Vicki McDonald, public information officer, Area Cooperative Education Services, North Haven; and Marcia Simon, president, MSE, Westbrook.
Gene R. Stec has been named executive vice president in charge of structured cabling systems for the InFinite Technology Group, LLC in Naugatuck. Stec has 15 years of experience in the cable industry, with an extensive background in the design and implementation of copper and fiber-optic structured cabling systems.
Four architects will hold endowed visiting professorships of design at Yale's School of Architecture this spring. Davenport professor Greg Lynn is known for his inventive use of the computer as an expressive medium. He was on the faculty at UCLA and Columbia, as well as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). Eero Saarinen professor Andres Duany has held faculty positions at the University of Miami, the University of Virginia and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His firm, Duany, Plater-Zyberk & Co., has designed more than 200 neighborhood and community revitalization plans, including Seaside, Fla. and Kentlands, Md. Leon Krier, who will occupy the Saarinen chair with Duany, has taught at the Royal College of London and is committed to the importance of design in creating community. Henry Bishop professor Glenn Murcutt, considered Australia's most distinguished architect, has served as visiting professor and critic at universities in Australia, Finland, Denmark, and the U.S.
James A. Sirleaf, M.D., has been appointed to the active staff in the department of emergency service at Griffeen Hospital in Derby. Sirleaf earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tenn. and completed his internship and residency in emergency medicine at the Metropolitan Health Center in New York. Also at Griffin, Gerald Micalizzi was appointed to the courtesy staff in the department of radiology. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed his internship and residency in radiology at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. Deborah E. Waterman named to the courtesy staff in the department of surgery, division of podiatry. Waterman received her medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, completed her residency in podiatric medicine from Our Lady of Mercy University Medical Center in New York.
Wilson Camelo has joined Mason & Madison Public Relations of New Haven as senior account executive. He will manage several business-to-business accounts, including CLAIMPlace and Cardium Health Service. Camelo was previously a public affairs officer in the U.S. Air Force and a public-relations advisor to the command's four-star general.
Michael Vasaturo has been promoted to regional vice president, East Coast, for Logistec USA Inc. of New Haven. He will have overall responsibility for Logistec's operations in Connecticut and Georgia. Vasaturo joined the company in 1996 and the following year was named executive vice president of Logistec Connecticut, responsible for all operational and financial matters of the division.
Also at Logistec, Angelo J. D'Errico has been named controller for the East Coast. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, D'Errico will be responsible for all financial and accounting functions within the region.
Webster Trust of Waterbury has named Kenneth R. Russell Jr. senior vice president. Formerly, Russell was managing director of telecommunications, media, technology and professional sports for Chase Manhattan Global Private Bank in New York, as well as president for the New England region. Also at Webster Laurie A. Soteriou was named vice president and financial advisor. Soteriou was previously vice president and private banker at BankBoston's Private Bank in Hartford. Recently employed as vice president and senior portfolio manager at Fleet Financial Advisors in Waterbury Nancy Kiely was named senior vice president and senior portfolio manager. Another new vice president, Anthony T. D'Angelo, is a former vice president/private banker at BankBoston and also held positions with the Boston Co. and Chase Manhattan Bank. Brian R. Flynn was named vice president and relationship advisor. He was a vice president and senior account manger at BankBoston in Waterbury, and a senior trust officer at Union Trust Co. in New Haven. New vice president and manager of estate administration Deborah A. Dunne's was an estate account manager and trust officer at BankBoston's Private Bank in New Haven. H. Holbrook Hyde has joined Webster Trust as vice president for lending. Hyde was previously vice president in the commercial lending division of Mechanics Savings Bank in Hartford.
Ellen Freiler has joined the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA as marketing associate. Freiler was previously executive director of Read to Grow Inc. She has also held positions with the Hearing, Balance & Speech Center in New Haven and Earmark Inc. in Hamden.
Citizens Bank has named Maria Tedesco director of retail banking for Connecticut and Rhode Island. She was previously senior vice president/director of business banking for Citizens, which she joined in 1994. She was formerly area sales manager and a member of the marketing/sales support group for BayBank. Tedesco earned a B.S. from Ithaca College and an M.B.A. from Northeastern University.
Nextel Communications has named Bob Johnson vice president of the company's Northeast region, which covers Maine through Virginia and includes four of the top seven wireless markets in the nation: New York, Boston, Baltimor, Washington and Philadelphia. Entering the wireless industry in 1884, Johnson joined Nextel in 1998. He was previously assigned to Nextel's mid-Atlantic market.
The Guilford Handcraft Center has named Susan Guagliumi its new education director. She replaces Fernn Hubbard, who is retiring after 19 years at the center. Guagliumi is a nationally-known expert on machine knitting and served a education director for Studio by White, a division of the Cleveland-based Viking-White Sewing Machine Co.
