NORWALK - Network Access Solutions (NAS) (NASDAQ: NASC), a broadband solutions providers for businesses, last month announced that it had negotiated a two-year contract with eLEC Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: ELEC) for broadband communications services.
We see this agreement as a partnership that enables us to bring broadband-enabled voice and data services to our Northeast-based business customers under the eLEC brand without having to invest in the build-out of facilities in this region, said Paul Riss, eLEC's CEO.
Existing customers in our commercial division have been asking for sDSL-enabled services in the Northeast for quite some time, added Michael F. Lagana, eLEC vice president, commercial division. They want the speed and quality associated with business-class, broadband-based services because they are a seamless, cost-effective replacement for traditional T-1 facilities and are ideal for supporting a wide range of high-speed data, voice and Web-based applications.
Symmetrical digital subscriber line (sDSL) service delivers up to 2 Mbps of access capacity to businesses for less than traditional T-1 facilities. As a result, companies can reduce network expenses without sacrificing quality. However, we needed a compatible provider that operated an ATM-based network architecture similar to ours, said Lagana. Our agreement with NAS enables us to accomplish this goal. The dense ATM-based business-class network they completed last June and best-in-class OSS system gives us the ability to deliver high-quality sDSL-enabled services to our customers under the eLEC brand.
