Software vet Lyons becomes CEO; Gupta remains as chairman and CTO

In a significant organizational shift designed to reposition the company in a highly competitive marketplace, the Shelton-based NeuVis, which creates enterprise-level Internet rapid application development (I-RAD) software, on January 16 named Bill Lyons its new president and chief executive officer.

A former CEO of Java and ActiveX Internet security software developer Finjan Software Ltd., object-oriented software developer ParcPlace-Digitalk Inc. and PC database software firm Ashton-Tate Corp., Lyons is a veteran software executive whose track record including 18 years in management at IBM Corp.

Arun Gupta, NeuVis' founder, chairman and current CEO, will relinquish the CEO title but remain as chairman and chief technology officer (CTO).

“Bill Lyons is a proven software executive with a unique blend of business and technology experience that will significantly benefit NeuVis at this important stage in the company's growth,” said Gupta.

“Bill will set our strategic direction and lead the execution of our business strategy,” he added. “His experience and wealth of contacts throughout the software industry will help propel us to the dominant position in the I-RAD marketplace.”

Explained Lyons: “The market is struggling with issues like tying legacy systems to the Internet, building XML-enabled applications and exploiting the potential of wireless applications. NeuVis has solved these problems with a compelling technology and an impressive set of partners.”

As the CEO of ParcPlace Systems Inc., Lyons took the company public in 1994 and helped to spearhead ParcPlace 1995 merger with Digitalk to formed what at the time was the largest independent object-oriented software company in the world, with more than $51 million in annual revenues.

At Ashton-Tate, Lyons led a $440 million merger with Borland International. During 18 years at IBM, Lyons also worked in a variety of sales and marketing positions, including vice president of software marketing for IBM's national distribution division.
