BRIDGEPORT - The Connecticut Post's new owner last month promised the region's business leaders that his newspaper would be a partner in the revitalization of the state's largest city.
William Dean Singleton, chief operating officer of the Denver-based MediaNews Group, which purchased Bridgeport daily in October, spoke before nearly 800 people gathered for the Bridgeport Regional Business Council's annual meeting at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport.
MediaNews' $200 million purchase of the Post brought the company's holdings to 48 daily newspapers and 94 non-daily publications, making it the seventh largest publishing group in the nation.
Singleton outlined the Post's role. He spoke of setting the agenda and working with community and business leaders to make sure meaningful economic development occurs.
Singleton, who founded MediaNews Group 17 years ago, purchased his first newspaper at age 21. MediaNews purchased the Denver Post, its flagship daily, 14 years ago.
