HARTFORD - As the old year waned, the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) announced its legislative agenda for the 2001 General Assembly session, which convened January 3. Transportation infrastructure and high business costs top the list.
Regarding the former, CBIA officials seek to improve the state's connectivity to regional and global markets by relieving congestion on major highways (especially I-95), making Bradley International Airport a best-in-class facility and expediting the approval process for state transportation projects.
On the cost side, the business group seeks to slow escalating health-care costs by reducing cost drivers, especially regulatory burdens. CBIA also advocates adherence to the state's constitutional limit on spending as well as lowering business taxes and creating incentives for investments in new technology.
Education and job training, improved technology and telecommunications and urban revitalization are also among the group's 2001 priorities.
