BRANFORD - Neurogen Corp. (NASDAQ: NRGN), a drug-discovery and-development company, last month announced that its research collaboration with Pfizer has resulted in the initiation of a Phase II efficacy study of Neurogen's lead drug candidate to treat anxiety disorders, known as NGD 91-3. Initiated by Pfizer, the study follows recently completed Phase I human clinical studies that demonstrated NGD 91-3 to be safe and well tolerated across a broad dose range, say Neurogen officials. In pre-clinical animal studies, NGD 91-3 has demonstrated the ability to quickly relieve anxiety without the side effects associated with other drugs currently used to treat anxiety disorders.
