NEW HAVEN - If you love those Irish knit sweaters, you don't have to buy a plane ticket. Celtica, which specializes in Irish goods, has opened at 260 College Street in downtown New Haven. Owned by Ashley Sheridan (owner of Anna Liffey's pub), his wife Nicola Sheriden and Julie Armstrong, the shop's atmosphere makes you almost forget you are in New Haven. The shop carries Irish Claddagh watches, pottery and glassware from Kilkenny, Donegal design throws, wool caps and chenille hats, gold and silver jewelry, Millingar pewter and even Irish CDs. If you want to warm up on these cold winter days, a tea room is located in the back of the shop. Besides tea it serves hot soup, pie and scones. If you want to take some Irish goodies home, it sells packages of tea, coffee, biscuits and scone mix.
