| DERBY - For the second year running Fortune magazine has named Griffin Hospital on the 100 Best Places to Work For in America. Ranked 70th on the list, Griffin joins such firms as American Express, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard and Kinko's. The non-profit acute-care hospital has more than 1,000 employees who care for 6,000 admitted patients, 34,000 emergency room patients and about 120,000 outpatients annually. Griffin was one of three Connecticut employers on Fortune's list: Wilton based Deloitte & Touche made the list, as well as Shelton-based American Skandia. The selection by Fortune is employee-driven, based on answers to a survey created by the Great Places to Work Institute in San Francisco. After narrowing the field, 237 candidate companies participated in the survey process that evaluates trust in management, pride in work and company and camaraderie. Griffin Hospital was one of seven non-profit companies and one of two with non-profit volunteer boards.
