FleetBoston has named Michael LaBella senior vice president and area manager for the small business services group in southern Connecticut. Two sales executives will report to him: Darrin DellaVecchia, relationship manager and John Severson, sales executive. LaBella, who will oversee Fleet's small business efforts in Fairfield and New Haven counties, joined Fleet from Citibank, where he was vice president of business services for Connecticut, Westchester County, N.Y. and New Jersey. He is a director of the Bridgeport Economic Resource Center. DellaVecchia joined Fleet from BankBoston, where he was vice president and relationship manager.

Paul T. Nonnenmacher has joined People's Bank as media relations officer in the corporate communications department. Nonnenmacher came to People's from the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, where he was director of communications. Before joining the BRBC, he was communications and program manager for Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE) and a reporter, editor and columnist for newspapers in three states, including 15 years with the Connecticut Post.

DSL.net Inc. of New Haven has named Keith Markley president and chief operating officer. David Struwas, formerly president and chief executive officer, will remain CEO. Prior to joining DSL.net, Markley was president and general manager, Eastern region, for Covad Communications. Before that he served as general manager for Brooks WorldCom/NEFC, and also as district director for Advanced Radio Telecom. Markley is also a former legislator, serving two terms in the New Hampshire house of representatives.

Louis Saloom, superintendent of Southington public schools before his retiremement in June, has joined the Connecticut Business & Industry Association's (CBIA) Education Foundation as director of education and school-to-career initiatives.

Stephen Russo has been named president of LIS Corp.Russo will be responsible for all phases of corporate business, including internal operations, development of external market opportunities and mergers and acquisitions for the companies under the LIS umbrella. Before joining LIS in 1997, Russo served as president of Latex International and the Bedding Product Division of Latex Foam Products. Russo holds a bachelor's degree from Yale University and undertook graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University.

Marc Warman, board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, has joined the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center of Trumbull and Fairfield. Warman, who specializes in the non-surgical treatment of back, neck, joint pain and injuries, earned his medical degree at Yale University School of Medicine. He was previously staff physician for the New York State Athletic Commission. He has been in private practice since 1994.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants has named Peter D. Graeb of Wallingford to chair its employee benefit plans committee, and Gregory Malangone of Branford to chair the professional ethics committee. Graeb and Malangone are principals with the New Haven firm of Beers, Hamerman & Co.

Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE) has named new directors and executive committee members. Elected to three-year terms as director were: Philip E. Austin, president, University of Connecticut; Robin Hogen, executive director, public affairs, Purdue Pharma, L.P. in Stamford; Wolfgang Plischke, executive vice president, Bayer Corp. in West Haven; Kevin Rakin, president, Genaissance Pharmaceuticals of New Haven; and William Rice, president and CEO, Achillion Pharmaceuticals of New Haven. Elected to a two-year term as director-at-large was Judy Greiman, president of the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges in West Hartford. Elected to the CURE executive committee in addition to Austin, Plischke and Rice were: William Bromage, president of Webster Bank; Victor Budnick, president and executive director of Connecticut Innovations Inc. in Rocky Hill; and Peter Ringrose, president of Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceuticals Research Institute in Wallingford. Re-elected to the executive committee was Bruce Alexander, vice president for New Haven affairs at Yale University. Peter Mueller, senior vice president of Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in Ridgefield was elected secretary. Continuing as co-chairs are George M. Milne Jr., executive vice president of Pfizer Global Research & Development and Harry H. Penner Jr., president of Neurogen Corp. of Branford. Debra K. Pasquale was re-elected president and Timothy Reilly, a partner with Pricewaterhouse Coopers, was re-elected treasurer.

The law firm of Pullman & Comley has named four new associates: Carrie L. Bernier joins the firm's litigation department in the Bridgeport office. She received her bachelor's degree from Boston College, her master's from the University of Massachusetts and her J.D. from Pace University School of Law. Richard S. DiPreta joins the trusts and estates department in the Southport and Stamford offices. He received his bachelor's degree from Trinity College and his master's and J.D. from the University of Connecticut. Eric J. George joins P&C's corporate department in Bridgeport. He is also a member of the firm's not-for-profit section and the e-commerce practice group. He was graduated from the University of Connecticut and earned a J.D. from its School of Law. Tracy Wheeler Lennon joins the firm's trusts and estates department in Southport. She has eight years' experience serving clients with estate planning and administration, real estate, corporate and litigation matters.

Candace H. Fitzek has been promoted to executive vice president, consumer banking at Webster Bank. She will lead Webster's sales and service functions, including branch banking, operations and planning, direct banking, and Webster's customer-contact center. Fitzek has 18 years' experience in strategic, business and financial management and organizational planning at financial organizations. She joined Webster in January as director of organizational development. Previously she was executive vice president, retail banking at BankBoston.

Karen Gobern has joined OR&L Construction as contracts specialist. A graduate of Central New England College of Technology in Worcester, Mass., she previously worked at Construction/Code Consultants in New York and at the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.

Quinnipiac University has named Crystal Brian associate professor of theater. Brian received her master's and Ph.D. in theater from UCLA and has worked professionally as an actress, theater critic, director and theater manager. She is also a former literary consultant for the A.S.K. Theatre Project, visiting director at the Pacific Resident Theater and the artistic director of the Lost World. She is currently completing The Roads to Home, the authorized biography of Horton Foote.

Scott C. Nardozzi has joined Webster Trust as assistant vice president and new business development officer with Webster Financial Advisors. Nardozzi will provide investment management, trust, estate planning and retirement wealth management services to Webster Financial Advisors' clients in greater New Haven. Nardozzi previously was with BankBoston.
