George W. Hermann as executive vice president, with responsibility for the management of daily operations. Previously, Hermann was vice president and relationship manager at Webster Bank in Danbury. Hermann holds a master's degree in finance from Western Connecticut State University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Central Connecticut State College. He is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at University of Delaware and the American Bankers Association Commercial Lending School.


Peter B. Brown has joined H. Pearce Co.'s North Haven office as an industrial and commercial sales associate. Brown brings to H. Pearce Co. nearly 20 years of commercial and real estate banking experience in the greater New Haven and Hartford markets. He is a former vice president at First Union National Bank and a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

Ronelle P. Williams is the new communications director for Market New Haven Inc. Williams, who has 11 years of media experience, will generate publicity about happenings and local events in downtown New Haven and beyond.

Susan Rapini of Hamden has been named executive director of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce. She will be responsible for managing the chamber's day-to-day activities and marketing events created by the board of directors. A Quinnipiac College graduate with a bachelor's degree in marketing, Rapini has worked as an advertising manager for Best Buy in Wallingford and as a sales representative at Caldor and Stanley Hardware in New Britain.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants has named Stephen J. VanBramer of North Haven to serve as chair of it Compilation & Review Services Committee. VanBramer is partner at the West Haven firm of Whitten, Horton & Gibney.

The Thornton-Tomasetti Group Inc. has promoted three professionals in its Trumbull office. Edward G. Shelomis has been named vice president of the company's LZA Technology division. Shelomis has 27 years of experience with structural and civil-engineering projects. A registered civil engineer, he earned a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University of New Haven and a master's in civil engineering from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Joseph Geffert of Oxford has been promoted to senior associate of LZA Associates, The Thornton-Tomasetti Group's complete building design division. Holding a bachelor's in electrical engineering from Farleigh Dickinson University, Geffert is responsible for electrical systems design. Also at LZA Technology, Wayne G. Hubbard has been named associate. Hubbard has 15 years of experience in engineering design and facility management. He holds a bachelor's in mechanical science from the University of Bridgeport's College of Science and Engineering.

Tyler ,Cooper & Alcorn, LLP has hired two new associates. Kelly P. Lutz and Christopher A. Kelland have joined the litigation department in the New Haven office.

Masonicare has named Sharon Saunders to the newly created position of vice president for marketing, where she will be responsible for developing and overseeing strategic initiatives for the organization. Saunders joins Masonicare with 15 years' experience in health-care management and marketing and clinical care. Previously she was director of marketing at Avery Heights in Hartford. Saunders received both her bachelor's in nursing and her master's in health-care management from the University of Connecticut.

New physicians have been added to the Griffin Hospital staff. Jeffrey Banker and Adam Schussheim were named to the active staff in the Department of Medicine's Division of Cardiology. Banker received his medical degree from the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed his residency training at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and his fellowships in cardiology and electrophysiology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. Schussheim received his medical degree from the Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training at the Cornell Medical Center and his fellowships in cardiology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and the National Institutes of Health.

Marcella Bradway has been named to the active staff in the Department of Surgery's Division of General Surgery Colorectal at Griffin. Bradway received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her residency in surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where she was appointed chief resident. Bradway completed her colon and rectal surgery fellowship at the St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center Program.

Lydia Barakat has been named to the active staff in the Department of Medicine in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease at Griffin. Barakat received her medical degree from the Lebanese University, completed her residency training in internal medicine at Griffin, and is currently studying for her fellowship in infectious disease at the Yale University School of Medicine.

Aziz Benbrahim has been named to the Department of Surgery's Division of General Surgery at Griffin. Benbrahim received his medical degree from the Hassan II University of Medicine in Casablanca, Morroco. He completed a general surgery residency program at the Paul Sabatier University School of Medicine in France, as well as his residency at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. Benbrahim completed a research fellowship in vascular surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Douglas C. Curtis has been named to the active staff in the Department of Pediatrics at Griffin. Curtis received his medical degree from the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his pediatrics residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital.





The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce has named three to new positions. Gardner C. Rowbotham has been appointed director of marketing and sales. He had been working as a marketing/sales consultant for the chamber. The Harvard graduate was previously regional manager, building envelope systems for the Henry Co. in Huntington Park, Calif. Louise DiCocco has been named director of government affairs. She previously worked as a legislative assistant and clerk of the education committee in the Connecticut General Assembly. DiCocco received her J.D. from the Quinnipiac College School of Law and a B.A. from Boston University. Patricia Seussel has been appointed executive director of the Greater New Haven Leadership Center. She previously worked as a project manager for Thornton Medical Communications in Guilford. She has a B.A. from Albertus Magnus College.




Also at Griffin, Robert Lavallee Jr. has been named to the active staff in the Department of Pediatrics. Lavallee received his medical degree from the New York Medical School and completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the Children's Hospital in Philadelphia.

Bridgeport Community Health Center has promoted Ludwig Spinelli to chief executive officer. Previously executive director, Spinelli has been with BCHC for 17 years. Spinelli was president of the Connecticut Primary Care Association and is former treasurer and charter member of the Community Health Network. Arvind Shaw, chief financial officer, has been promoted to chief operating officer. Shaw joined BCHC in 1988 and oversees the administration of operations for the sites in Bridgeport, Stamford and Stratford.

Earl J. Martel and Kelly Bright have joined Campbell Mortgage of West Haven as senior loan officers. Martel has been in the mortgage industry since 1992 and his specialty is FHA, 203(k) loans and government loans. Bright has worked in the banking and financial industries since 1985 in various managerial positions. She has extensive knowledge and training regarding FHA loans, as well as conventional loans.

Thomas P. Smith Jr. has been named Knights of Columbus senior vice president of agencies and marketing. Smith's career at the Knights spans 25 years. He has been vice president since 1998. He will manage day-to-day operations and supporting headquarters services of the Knights' insurance field force of approximately 1,300 agents, while also overseeing HR development, training, recruiting and advertising.

Douglas P. Lo Presti, former director of call-center business development for the Southern New England Telephone Co., has joined Partner Communications Group as director of consulting services. He will be responsible for the development and launch of Partner's new Call Center Consulting practice. Lo Presti has more than 30 years of telecommunications experience.
