Pitney Bowes Inc. and American Ambulance Services Inc. were big winners in the first Connecticut Business Ethics Awards, presented by the Hartford chapter of Financial Services Professionals. The awards, presented November 2 at the Aqua Turf in Southington, were part of the society's annual Celebration of Achievement banquet keynoted by state Treasurer Denise L. Nappier.
Pitney Bowes earned top honors in the public-company benefit in part by virtue of its consistent commitment to social responsibility through efforts at community outreach, economic-development efforts in Stamford's South End and its employee-volunteer program, known as PB People: Building Stronger Communities.
Based in Norwich, American Ambulance Services was named top private company for its more than 20 years of innovation, including designing and converting the first marine-certified ambulance in Connecticut, as well as being one of the first ambulatory services to purchase neonatal incubate-care units for critical newborns.
American Ambulance also routinely provides equipment and services, sometimes gratis, to community fire departments, charitable groups and residents who require transportation from nursing facilities to family functions.
The Connecticut Business Ethics award was established by the Hartford chapter of Financial Service Professionals to recognize Connecticut businesses that exemplify a strong commitment to civic and social responsibility, integrity and ethical conduct. This includes a demonstrable commitment to ethical business practices in day-to-day operations, management, philosophies and responses to crises and challenges.
Honorees were selected by a panel of four independent judges. Pitney Bowes and American Ambulance thus become eligible for a national competition that culminates in the awarding of three national American Business Ethics Awards.
Formerly known as the Society of Certified Life Underwriters, the Hartford chapter of American Financial Services Professionals was founded in 1935 and has more than 580 members in greater Hartford as well as the New Haven area.
