The October 18 Southern Connecticut Business Expo at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven breathed new life into the region's business community. More than 4,000 business people attended the event, which featured about 200 exhibitors representing 35 industries.
The business community truly rallied behind the event, from its planning stages through the exhibition, contributing to its success, said New Haven chamber President Anthony Rescigno, whose organization produced the event. The excitement level was astounding.
After a five-year hiatus, the business exposition returned to prove that, yes, Virginia, there is a New Haven-area business community, and it is alive and kicking. We salute the chamber for its success in this endeavor, and hope that the expo is back to stay.
One thing that made this year's event a success was the participation of senior executives from leading companies, many of whom took the time to walk the show following the chamber's awards breakfast and thus elevate its stature. We wish local political leaders (with the notable exception of Attorney General Richard Blumenthal) had thought it important enough to do the same.
