Douglas Johnson has been named chief operating officer and managing director of Newcare Products, LLC, a new consumer-oriented medical products company in Cheshire. Johnson has recently completed a four-year program at the School of Industrial Management at Worcester (Mass.) Polytechnic Institute and now is a director of the school. Johnson has been employed by Milliken & Co. of South Carolina and, more recently, by Micron Medical Products.
Ramon A. Jimenez of Bridgeport has been named director of emergency services, and John H. Harper of Stratford has been named director of health and safety, at the southeastern Fairfield County chapter of the American Red Cross. Jimenez, who previously served as a social-services case manager at Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport, is a graduate of St. John Maria Vianney College in Miami, where he received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and sociology. He is working toward a master's degree in social work at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven. Harper has worked for the American Red Cross since 1992. Most recently, he served as director of programs and services at the Stratford Red Cross, where he was responsible for rewriting the agency's disaster plan, supported disaster action team reorganization and enhanced health and safety services.
The law firm of Carmody & Torrance, LLP, with offices in Waterbury, New Haven and Southbury, has named J. Allen Kerr Jr. counsel. Kerr will practice in the firm's municipal law group, working with existing municipal and public-sector clients and assisting in further expanding the firm's municipal practice. Kerr served from 1983 to July of this year as Ridgefield town attorney and represented the town in a number of high-profile matters.
Jacobs & Prosek Public Relations of Stratford has reorganized its staff into specialized teams, naming managing directors to lead each of the four units. Jennifer White and James J. Ventrilio have joined Jacobs & Prosek as managing directors, while Ilene Shub Lefland and William R. Neagus have been promoted to the new position. Whittle manages a department concentrated in business-to-business, high-technology industries and real estate which includes an emphasis on start-up companies. She has 17 years of experience in public relations and most recently served as vice president for Mullen Public Relations in Phoenix, Ariz. Ventrillo heads Jacob & Prosek's corporate and financial services group, providing public relations counsel to clients ranging from insurance to online brokerage houses. He has more than 20 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications and crisis communications, as well as trade shows and special events. Lefland, who manages a group that focuses on national consumer clients, has more than two decades of experience in public relations and journalism. A former radio news reporter and anchor, she most recently served as public affairs manager for the Yale Cancer Center. Neagus heads a group that specializes in regional public relations and crisis communications. He also conducts media training for Jacobs & Prosek clients. A former newspaper reporter who covered the state Capitol, he has 23 years of experience in public relations and journalism.
John I. Crown has joined Saas Mezzanotte & Associates in Wallingford. Crown, a CPA since 1974, has assumed a substantial role developing the firm's practice in business and personal tax and financial planning, auditing, business valuation, litigation support and consulting. Having served most recently as chief financial officer at Levine-Webster Insurance in Waterford, Crown's career in public accounting spanned nine years with the Hartford office of international accounting and consulting group Ernst & Young, where he attained the rank of supervisor, and five years with Donald Brodeur, CPAs of Old Saybrook.
Griffin Hospital in Derby has named Rev. Jo Clare Wilson as director of its Pastoral Care Department. Wilson comes to Griffin from a hospital system in South Carolina, bringing more than 20 years of pastoral care experience in a health-care environment. She will oversee the entire pastoral care and education department. Wilson received her bachelor's degree from Austin Peay University and her master's of divinity studies from Vanderbilt University.
Margaret Dinneen has joined Barnstorm Productions of Meriden as production manager. Dinneen formerly worked as director of production operations at Convergence Film and Television in Orlando, Fla. A New Haven native, Dinneen earned a bachelor's degree in advertising and marketing from Quinnipiac University. Also at Barnstorm, Scott Sawala has been promoted to editor/technical director.
Richard K. Schmidt of Fairfield, president and CEO of the Aquarion Co., has been elected to a three-year term as a director of the Barnum Museum Foundation. Schmidt became Aquarion's president and CEO in 1995. He graduated from Tulane University, where he received a bachelor's in civil engineering and a master's in environmental engineering. He earned a doctorate in environmental engineering from the University of Texas and completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.
John Dalton has joined Dalton Enterprises Inc., where he will assume the presidency, while founder and father Peter Dalton will remain active as CEO. John Dalton brings a wealth of experience in sales and brand marketing and will play a key role in expanding the market for the firm's consumer and commercial business. Previously, Dalton spent several years in marketing for Pepsico in Purchase, N.Y., where he worked on a national relaunch of Pepsi and later worked on its joint venture with Starbucks.
Medical Education Consultants Inc. (MEDCON) of Westport has named Richard Grady director of scientific affairs. Richards was previously employed with the Parke-Davis division of Pfizer Inc.
Laura Crosse and Judy Mison have joined the residential sales division of Press/Cuozzo Realtors. Previously, Crosse worked for many years in the health-care and insurance industries. A resident of North Haven, Crosse is also a volunteer at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a member of the Greater New Haven Association of Realtors. Mison, a lifelong Hamdener, has operated a framing business in Westville for 30 years.
Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield has appointed Marjorie W. Dorr to the newly created position of president of Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield East. Since 1998, she has served as chief operating officer for Anthem's Connecticut operations. Dorr is now responsible for establishing a strategic direction for the company's eastern organization, which includes Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. She has been with Anthem since 1991, serving in a variety of roles, including chief financial officer of Anthem Casualty Insurance Group and as president of Anthem Prescription Management.
