NEW HAVEN - Alexion Pharmaceuticals on October 25 announced the formation of a new company, Arradial Inc., aimed at commercializing Alexion's desktop silicon-based microarray assay technology. The technology, say company officials, is capable of performing more than 100,000 nanoliter volume microassays per day with a miniaturized, software-driven robotic system. It is expected to have applications in genomics and drug discovery.
We are pleased to have established Arradial as a means to commercialize this exciting new post-genomic instrumentation technology which may establish a new standard with particular utility in important new emerging discovery areas including genomics, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and proteomics, said Stephen P. Squinto, Alexion's executive vice president and head of research.
Arradial, which will be located in Boston, expects to close its seed round of venture-capital financing some time in the fourth quarter. Alexion will become a minority equity shareholder in the company and will have the right to a seat on its board of directors.
P. Thomas Vogel, former president of Fisher Scientific Co. as well as former president and COO of Instrumentation Laboratories Inc., is a co-founder of Arradial and its president, CEO and a director of the Company.
Alexion employs about 113 workers at its Science Park home.
