ESSEX - Essex Savings Bank is inviting all 501[c]3 non-profit organizations in its service area of Essex, Chester, Deep River, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Lyme and Old Lyme to apply for participation in its 2000 Community Investment Customer Voting Program.
The 149-year-old bank donates ten percent of its after-tax net income to non-profit organizations and community-development projects in the communities it serves. Contributions this year will total some $130,000. Each year a portion of these funds are allocated to non-profits as a result of voting by the bank's customers.
Last year, 59 organizations appeared on the ballot and shared more than $38,000. The Shoreline Soup Kitchen earned the most votes - and a check for $3,260.
Says Essex Savings President and CEO Gregory R. Shook, We are delighted to let our customers participate and decide how the bank allocates its charitable giving. Through the bank's promotion of the program, The non-profit organizations and their supporters that appear on our ballot receive greater public awareness of the outstanding work they do in our communities.
The deadline for applications is December 16. Customer voting will take place in February and March, and funds will be disbursed next April. To learn how to apply, call 860-767-2573.
