MIDDLEBURY - On October 10, General DataComm (NYSE: GDC) announced that it had received a $1.4 million order to provide network-access equipment in support of the Lottery System for the State of Ohio. General DataComm will supply its equipment through the Unisys Corp., as leasing agent. GDC's SpectraComm and Metroplex access equipment will allow Ohio to consolidate multiple lower-speed circuits into fewer high-speed lines. The new network design also eliminates a significant amount of equipment at the central site, resulting in direct cost savings, as well as freeing up space to allow for an upgrade of the system's processing capacity. As an added benefit, the new configuration will allow the state to integrate a standby data center for immediate recovery in the event of a catastrophic failure at the primary facility.
