NEW HAVEN - The National Labor Relations Board has issued a complaint against Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH) for violations of federal labor law.
The complaint, issued by NLRB Regional Director Peter Hoffman in late September, alleged that the hospital had been interfering with, restraining and coercing employees seeking to form a union. Hoffman ordered a hearing of the complaint before an administrative law judge in February.
Employees have been threatened, harassed and intimidated, said Laura Smith, president of Local 34. We are greatly distressed and appalled at the hospital administration.
Hospital officials were quick to deny the claims made by employees. We deny the allegation that we violated any labor practices and believe that the hearing will support us, said Yale-New Haven Hospital spokesperson Katie Krauss. We are confident the charges will be dismissed.
The Service Employees International Union, District 1199, has been attempting to organize a union for the hospital's 1,800 service and maintenance workers.
