NEW HAVEN - Did you know that men can get breast cancer? This year, about 1,400 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in American men, reports Yale-New Haven Hospital. However, breast cancer is 100 times more common in women, and statistically, one in eight or nine American women will develop breast cancer at some point in life, the hospital reports.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, during which mammograms are strongly encouraged in order to detect cancer.

Yale-New Haven notes that by age 30, one of every 2,525 women may get breast cancer. And by age 40, the risk increases to one woman out of every 217.
