NEW HAVEN - Yale-New Haven Hospital is one of only two hospitals in the state offering a new culturing method for the in-vitro development of embryos, the hospital reports.
Known as the blastocyst culture system, the process enables the hospital to achieve pregnancy rates exceeding 50 percent, according to the hospital. Nationally, the in-vitro pregnancy rate in facilities using the standard random selection method is roughly 25 percent.
The blastocyst culture system allows production of more fully developed embryos, explains Ervin Jones, professor and director of assisted reproduction, OB/GYN. In addition to boosting the chances of pregnancy, this results in fewer embryo transfers and multiple pregnancies, he explains.
