ePocrates Teams with Aetna

Physicians using the ePocrates Rx drug-reference guide can now download the current Aetna national drug formulary onto handheld devices. More than 200,000 physicians are currently using the ePocrates Rx system, which houses definitive data on safety topics such as indication-specific dosing, drug interactions, and adverse reactions. ePocrates Inc. is the largest handheld physician network, enabling quick point-of-care access to important clinical information.
Integration of the Aetna formulary with patient safety information enables physicians to check not only dosing, drug interactions and other important safety information but also whether a drug is included on Aetna's national formulary - all before they prescribe the drug for an Aetna member. Physicians will have instant access to general co-pay information, as well as information concerning prior authorization requirements and quantity limits that may apply under some benefit plans for those benefits providers that make their formularies accessible through ePocrates.
A study conducted last year at Boston's Brigham & Women's Hospital, a teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School, showed that physicians using ePocrates Rx can potentially avoid one to two adverse events per week. Additionally, the study showed that the ePocrates Rx handheld electronic drug reference guide saved time for physicians and also improved the physician-patient relationship.
