MILFORD - Submarines have landed on dry ground. Some 22 submarines have been on display downtown this summer, causing some pedestrians to do a double take in front of the library or one of the other submarine locations. If you have a favorite you just might be able to bring it home: They make great lawn ornaments (or at least different lawn ornaments). The Fine Arts Council is going to send off the submarines in a big way with a Fleet Has Landed Shore Party Auction. The event, to take place from 6:30 to 10 p.m. October 14 at Boys Village, 528 Wheelers Farms Road, will include an auction to benefit local charities. Since people have been pretty opinionated about their favorites, a People's Choice Award will be presented. Voters have been dropping their ballots off at local stores. Mayor Frederick Lisman and Terry Munk will serve as auctioneers. Tickets for the event are $15, with proceeds to benefit the Fine Arts Council Trust Fund. For details call the Arts Council at 203-878-6647.
