DERBY - The Planetree Alliance, a patient-centered health-care system with 35 hospital affiliates nationwide, was recently featured in two Japanese publications that described Planetree's humanistic model of care. Both articles included Derby's Griffin Hospital, a Planetree affiliate. One author stated that Japanese hospitals cannot survive unless they are more patient-based, and the article highlights the components of Planetree's model of care, sharing information on how the U.S. hospitals incorporate the model's components.
We are excited Planetree is being recognized, not only nationally, but internationally, says Patrick Charmel, Griffin Hospital's president and CEO. A patient-centered environment, rather than provider-focused, is what health care has lost sight of over the years with the introduction of bigger and better technology, he adds.
