Fast Print With Your Fast Food

WALLINGFORD - Never mind how fast the “chef” is putting together your Italian combo sandwich at the local Subway restaurant. Take a peek at the ink-jet printer hooked up to the point-of-sale (POS) computer system behind the counter for state-of-the-art speed.

The Ithaca POSjet 1000 ink jet printer manufactured by Wallingford's TransAct Technologies Inc. will be jetting its way to Subway franchises worldwide as part of the SubSolution POS system being sold by Deco Solutions Group Inc. to franchises of the Milford-based. Deco Solutions recently selected the printer as original equipment for its PC-based touchscreen POS Systems, used in the quick-serve restaurant industry. The printer is already being used by several Subway franchises, and Subway headquarters has mandated that all its 14,450 restaurants upgrade from cash registers to computerized POS systems by the year 2002.

TransAct Technologies designs, develops, manufactures and markets transaction-based printers and related products under the Ithaca, Magnetec and Transact.com brand names. The printers specialize in providing receipts, tickets, coupons, register journals and other documents for point-of-sale, gaming and lottery, financial services, kiosk and Internet applications.

“We selected TransAct because of its long-time market presence and ability to manufacture a product that is significantly faster than the current printer we use,” says Richard Decoursy, co-chief executive officer and vice president of service and support for Deco Solutions Group. At TransAct Technologies, CEO Bart C. Shuldman says this agreement indicates the printer is “gaining popularity and replacing the older technology-based printers of our competitors.”
