Mary Ann Slomski has been named director of alumni relations at the University of New Haven. Slomski attended Fairfield University and Central Connecticut State University, earning a B.S. in marketing and management. She most recently served as assistant director of alumni services at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
S. Alexis Chisholm has been named director of grants and sponsored research at the University of New Haven. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Chisholm holds bachelor's degrees in history and English. She has eight years of development experience, most recently as president of Identity Consulting.
Also at UNH, John C. Harmon has been named director of the university's executive MBA program. Most recently, Harmon served as chief operating officer of Payback Training Systems. He received his doctoral degree in history from the University of Rochester in 1975, where he subsequently taught and worked in administration. Harmon was also formerly employed at Eastman Kodak, where he held various positions, including worldwide marketing director of software and services.
Sal A. Ardigliano, president and chief operating officer for the Southern Connecticut Gas Co., has been named to the University of New Haven's board of governors. Ardigliano, who earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering at UNH in 1971, has served on School of Engineering and Applied Sciences board of advisors since 1998. He has been with Southern Connecticut Gas since 1972, holding various management and executive-level positions, and was promoted to his current position in February.
Housein M. Wazaz has joined the practice of gastrointestinal medicine with David M. Sack, in Meriden. He is affiliated with MidState Medical Center in Meriden and the Masonic Geriatric Health Care Center in Wallingford. Wazaz completed his three years of fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at the New Jersey Medical School Liver Center, Mount Sinai (N.Y.) Hospital and the State University of New York at Nassau County Medical Center. He has practiced gastroenterology in Meriden and Cheshire since 1986 and is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
Susan Ross has been promoted to vice president of sales, special accounts for PHS Health Plans in Trumbull. Ross will be responsible for managing large commercial employer clients and Medicare group sales for the company's operations in Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. She joined the company in 1989 as an account executive and has been promoted over the years within the sales management organization.
Delmar Institutional Bakery Distributors of North Haven is under new ownership. Mark Wolverton, who has assumed ownership as president and sales manager, has more than 20 years of sales experience.
Fletcher-Thompson Inc. of Bridgeport and Hartford has appointed three new associates to the firm: Timothy P. Cohen, Joseph G. Costa and Richard Montaine. Cohen holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from Syracuse and has 11 years' experience in architectural design. Costa, who serves as project manager in the Education Studio, has 16 years of professional experience in all phases of architectural project delivery and professional design services. He has been associated with the new New Milford High School and Intermediate School and the Helen Keller Elementary School in Easton. Montaine has more than 30 years of wide-ranging experience in architecture. His work has spanned diverse projects from hospitals to laboratories, from commercial projects to residential commissions. Since joining the Corporate/Industrial Studio at Fletcher-Thompson, he has worked on projects for Clairol Inc. and Sikorsky Aircraft, as well as Mount Sinai (N.Y.) Hospital.
Deloitte & Touche, LLP has appointed two new partners in its Stamford office. Steven P. Goldberg, who has been named partner in the solutions practice, has more than ten years' experience in financial services. He joined the firm in 1998. His areas of specialty include information technology and financial services. Shaun L. Budnick has been named partner in the assurance and advisory practice. She has 12 years' experience in the manufacturing industry and specializes in manufacturing and distribution sectors.
John R. Ward has returned to Pullman & Comley, LLC as a member of the Commercial Law & Real Estate Department in the New Haven office. Ward was associated with Pullman & Comley from 1990 to 1997. After leaving the firm, he served for three years in the New Haven Corporation Counsel's office as deputy corporation counsel. Ward graduated in law from Kings College, University of London in 1983 and received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1990.
The Yale School of Management has added six new professors to its senior faculty. Professor of Finance Ivo Welch joins the Yale faculty from UCLA. With broad interests in finance, economics, strategy, and entrepreneurship, his past work includes publications on initial public offerings and imitative behavior. He was honored with the Moskowitz Prize for the best paper on socially responsible investing and the Smith-Breeden Distinguished Paper Award. Assistant Professor of Politics, Policy & Organization Jonathan Koppell is from the political science doctoral program at the University of California/Berkeley. His research focuses on the government's role in business and has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times and the Industry Standard. Assistant Professor of Finance Harry Mamaysky comes to Yale from the financial doctoral program at MIT's Sloan School of Management. He currently researches theoretical and empirical asset pricing, market microstructure, empirical finance, risk management and financial engineering. Assistant Professor of Accounting Gans Narayanamoorthy joins the Yale faculty from the University of Rochester's doctoral program in accounting. He has investment banking experience in public offerings and international securities and currently focuses on financial accounting in his research. Assistant Professor of Marketing Nathan Novemsky comes to Yale from the doctoral program in social psychology at Princeton University and currently researches consumer behavior, marketing management, marketing research, advertising and negotiation. Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior Sandra Spataro is from the doctoral program in business administration at the University of California/Berkeley's Haas School of Business. She currently researches the formation of informal status hierarchies in organizations and how status levels affect individuals' work experiences.
The Bridgeport-based Bruner Consulting Associates Inc., with offices in Rocky Hill and Stamford, has hired Timothy Cyr as vice president of sales. Cyr will be responsible for growing Bruner's New England market share; systems design and programming; LAN/WAN architecture and planning; and custom application development. Also at Bruner, Jim Sanzone has been promoted to director of network services. A Microsoft-certified systems engineer, Sanzone has experience with Microsoft's BackOffice and Windows NT platforms and has co-authored articles on both servers and software piracy.
William E. Shannon has been promoted to resins operations manager at Cytec Industries' Wallingford plant. Shannon will oversee the manufacturing, engineering, shipping, quality improvement, maintenance, safety and environmental activities of the plant. He has been with Cytec since 1985, most recently as product manager for the coating department of the Global Specialty Resins Business.
Gregory C. D'Andrea has been promoted to process-control manager at Cytec Industries' Wallingford facility. He will be responsible for leading a focused effort towards advanced manufacturing through cost-effective automation. D'Andrea joined the company in 1988 as a chemical research engineer in Cytec's Stamford facility, and was promoted to process engineering manager in April 1998. D'Andrea earned a B.A. degree in chemistry at Franklin & Marshall College; a M.S. in mineral engineering and chemical metallurgy as well as a doctorate of engineering science at Columbia University; and an M.B.A. from the University of New Haven.
Also at Cytec, Ted W. Berry has been promoted to production superintendent in the resins department. He is responsible for the production of spray dried and specialty resins at the company's Wallingford facility. Berry was named operations superintendent in 1993, and in 1997 received Cytec's Circle of Excellence Award for his accomplishments in manufacturing. Berry received a B.S. in marketing from Syracuse University.
Martino & Binzer Inc. of Avon has hired Mark O'Brien as director of public relations. O'Brien is responsible for implementing formal PR programs for M&B's clients, increasing the visibility, credibility and viability of their businesses by creating strong platforms and receptive markets for their products and services. Before joining M&B, O'Brien owned and operated O'Brien Communications Consulting, working with clients such as Cigna Healthcare, PHS and Fleet Capital Corp.
Nancy Pruitt has been named director of development for Easter Seals Goodwill Industries Rehabilitation Center of New Haven. Pruitt was formerly employed by Sacred Heart University, where she was the development clients' coordinator for 18 months. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California/Berkeley. She will be responsible for special events such as the Easter Seals Golf Classic, the holiday Fantasy of Lights and other events run by Easter Seals.
Yankee Energy System Inc. has named William Lee Cranford Jr. controller. He comes to Yankee from Northeast Utilities, where he has held various accounting positions since 1973, most recently as project manager. Cranford, who received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Central Connecticut State University, will be based at Yankee's Meriden headquarters.
Ed Dzitko has been named director of public relations and communications for the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce. He will be responsible for developing communications plans, message content and materials in support of the chamber's goals, objectives and activities, as well as serving as the chamber's media relations coordinator. Previously Dzitko was a senior communications officer at People's Bank in Bridgeport. He also worked at Goodwick Associates in Newtown and Housatonic Valley Publishing in New Milford.
Trustees of Teikyo Post University have elected Jon Jay DeTemple president of the university. With 25 years' experience in higher education to guide him, DeTemple will be setting the direction for future growth at TPU. He is already focusing on several major goals centering around academic excellence, alumni and community relations, new programs, distance education, faculty and staff development and institutional advancement. DeTemple earned his Ph.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Syracuse University and holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University.
Richard K. Snyder has re-joined the law firm of Tyler, Cooper & Alcorn, LLP as counsel in the New Haven office. He was previously with the firm from 1964 to 1981. He will rejoin the firm's corporate practice in the trusts and estates area. Snyder is an elected fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, serves on the executive committee of the estates and probate section of the Connecticut Bar Association and the executive committee of the New Haven County Bar Association. Snyder was graduated from the University of Michigan in 1957 with a B.S. in English and earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1963. Tyler, Cooper & Alcorn, LLP has also hired Gerald T. Giaimo as a new associate. Giaimo will maintain his civil and criminal litigation practice.
M. Scott Salka has been named president and CEO of 454 Corp., a majority-owned technology subsidiary of CuraGen Corp. of New Haven. Salka was previously president and CEO of Arcaris Inc., where he facilitated company growth from 14 to nearly 50 employees and oversaw construction of a state-of-the-art research laboratory. He has also held various financial and management positions at companies including Burroughs Corp., and B.F. Goodrich. Scott received his B.S. in finance from San Diego State University and his M.B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.
Paul A. Fleury has been named dean of engineering at Yale University, succeeding D. Allan Bromley. Fleury, most recently dean of engineering at the University of New Mexico, is an award-winning scientist and engineer who has served in a wide variety of top-level research and executive positions in industry, government and academia for the past three decades. He is a member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences.
Dattco Inc. has named Dominic Butanowicz general manager, sales and service. A University of Bridgeport graduate in business administration, Butanowicz worked for International Harvester and Navistar International for 33 years in a variety of positions, most recently as dealer operations manager.
