NEW HAVEN - American Discount Stores at 97 Church Street in downtown New Haven is going out of business after 38 years. According to General Manager Jack Porter, the store has lost its lease. The store carried clothing, domestic items, small appliances and children's furniture. We're selling out everything, including the fixtures, said Porter. It's been a pleasure serving this community for so long. I'm going to miss the customers. They've been very loyal to us. Customers are already commenting how much they are going to miss a store that they're relied on for so many years. The building is owned by C.A. White, which plans to incorporate the site in a development of approximately 90 downtown apartments targeted toward young professionals.
