DAYVILLE - United Natural Foods Inc. (NASDAQ: UNFI) announced results for its third quarter ended April 30. Net sales totaled $229.2 million, versus $226.9 million for the same quarter a year ago. Net income for the quarter was $1.77 million (ten cents per diluted share) vs. $5.11 million (28 cents per diluted share) for the comparable 1999 period. The company sited the closing of its Chicago facility and consolidation of its Eastern region as factors affecting the third quarter performance.
