A team of local groups are joining forces to present a Transit Fair during the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven.
The outdoor component of the event will take from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 (rain date June 29) on the New Haven Green near the festival's Fleet Stage. Admission to the event is free.
The fair is intended to educate attendees about alternatives for traveling to and parking in New Haven's central business district. Hosted by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, the event will b coordinated by the Town Green Special Services District, Rideworks, the United Illuminating, and Traub & Co.'s John Friedlander.
The Transit Fair will feature several area transit, parking and
health-related organizations. Each will offer information on alternate methods of travelling to and from downtown New Haven as well as parking. Scheduled exhibitors include Rideworks, Connecticut Transit, Dattco, Greyhound, the Greater New Haven Clean Cities Coalition, the Connecticut Bike Coalition, LAZ Parking and Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Held in conjunction with the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, the
fair will also include a public seminar in the Aldermanic Chambers of City Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Hosted by former state transportation commissioner Emil Frankel, the panel discussion will examine transit as a component of economic growth, using the Connecticut Regional Institute for the 21st Century's Connecticut Strategic Economic Framework report as a catalyst for discussion. Karyl Lee Hall of the Connecticut Fund for the Environment and State Sen. William A. Aniskovich (R-12) will be among the panelists.
There will also be a private seminar for downtown business owners and human-resources executives to discuss how transit and parking policies and procedures can help attract and retain employees. To register or for more information about the event, call Scott Healy at the Town Green Special Services District at 203-401-4245.
