State Manufacturers: Still Hurting

Business New Haven

WATERBURY - Connecticut remains an extremely expensive environment for manufacturing, according to the annual index released February 26 by the Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut. The new study ranked Connecticut 43rd among the 50 state in terms of cost of doing business here. While that ranking reflected a slight improvement over the state's previous annual ranking of 49th, MAC Executive Director noted that the improvement in Connecticut's ranking could be attributed in large part to the fact that costs in other states rose even faster than they did here.

MAC recommends eliminating personal-property taxes on manufacturing equipment, cutting workers compensations costs and providing tax incentives to encourage collaborations between and among manufacturing companies, colleges and investors.
