By now, few question that e-commerce has transformed the commercial and marketing landscape of America. Now, it's changing the academic environment, too.
Next month Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven's School of Extended Learning will debut a new graduate-level credentialing program in e-commerce. The curriculum will be open to bachelor's-level degree holders interested in e-commerce development.
The initial iteration of the program will comprise four intensive e-commerce introductory courses where students will gain fundamental e-commerce knowledge. Completion of the quartet, which carry 12 credits, will earn the student an e-commerce credential.
Beginning May 30, Introduction to E-Commerce will explore the history, definitions, jargon and technology of e-commerce. Beginning the same week, Online Consumer Behavior will examine cyber-consumers - how they're different from other consumers, and how customer intimacy and trust impact e-commerce ventures.
Beginning with the fall semester, E-Marketing will look at how the four P's of marketing (product, price, place and promotion) are affected in an e-commerce environment. A more technology-focused course, E-Commerce Administration, will discuss payment options and strategies, tax and accounting implications, privacy and security issues.
According to Sandy Leuder, an associate marketing professor in the SCSU School of Business, each course in the curriculum will meet one night weekly for eight weeks. Class size will be limited to 20 students and the entire curriculum may be completed in six to seven months if the sequence is followed.
Tuition for each course is $564. For particulars about the program, contact 203-392-5879.
