NEWS Mitchell R. LaBar, Northeast divisional manager for Marcus & Millicap Real Estate Investment Brokerage Co., announced that the firm has relocated its Connecticut office from Branford to 265 Church Street, Suite 210, in New Haven, commonly known as Century Tower. According to LaBar, since acquiring Connecticut's largest apartment brokerage firm, Witten & Nolletti, last June, the move was necessitated to increase the size of the office. Marcus & Millicap has 34 offices nationwide and in 1999 posted sales of $5.2 billion. William Orange Realty has announced the opening of its second office at 1654 Litchfield Turnpike (the D'Andrea Plaza) in Woodbridge. The first office is located on Racebrook Road in Orange. This move puts us closer to our existing customers and prospective clients in Woodbridge, Bethany and New Haven, said Frank D'Ostilio Jr., president and broker-in-charge. The new office features three customer conference rooms, more agent workspace and a state-of-the-art computer network. Calcagni Associates Real Estate has announced that Gloria Valentino has joined the firm as a residential sales agent. A graduate of the Greater New Haven Board of Realtors and the South Shore (Mass.) Board of Realtors, Valentino will assist clients in the Wallingford, Meriden, Middlefield, Durham, Madison and North Haven area. Also, Amy Salvati has joined the company's North Haven office. She is a certified residential specialist, broker, licensed residential appraiser, corporate relocation specialist and professional standards certification specialist.
Ron Mazzacane of Coldwell Banker Coast & Country has been named the 1999 No. 1 Sales Associate in closed gross commission income in Connecticut for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corp., tops among 200 Coldwell Banker sales associates in the state.
Loretta Rennie of Press/Cuozzo Realtors has been cited by the Greater New Haven Association of Realtors for its Quarterly Achievement Award. Rennie was also honored by the System I Real Estate Network for her 1999 sales and has earned the Platinum Award. She holds a CRS designation earned by only five percent of all Realtors.
Jo Gambardella, residential sales associate for H. Pearce Co., Realtors, has won the company's 1999 Community Service Award. According to Pearce President Barbara L. Pearce, Gambardella has long exemplified the company's commitment to giving back to the communities it serves. Jo lends her time to community programs such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Adopt-a-Family and the Life Haven homeless shelter for women and children. Gambardella is also a member of the Branford Chamber of Commerce.
Beazley Co., Realtors reported that its second annual Dinner with SARAH event raised $17,000 for the SARAH Endowment Fund, which provides financial support to the SARAH service agencies which assist people with physical and metal disabilities. SARAH provides employment services, recreation, community experience, senior services, group home and support living services and an Early Start program for families with infants/children with development concerns.
LEASES
Press/Cuozzo Realtors has announced that CTC Corp. has leased 4,400 square feet of space at Hamden Center II, located at 2321 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. The value of the lease is more than $400,000. The office tower is now 100-percent occupied. Albert Scafati of Press/Cuozzo represented the owner, while Kevin Smith of H. Pearce Co. represented the tenant.
Coldwell Banker Commercial has announced that Tyco International Inc. has leased 4,655 square feet of office space at Merritt 8 Corpoate Park, 99 Hawley Lane, Stratford. The firm is relocating operations from Orange. The complex is 160,000 square feet of Class A office space managed by Joseph Coci of Mountainview Development, who represented the owner, Merritt 8 Asquisitions, LLC. The facility was purchased last August for $20 million.
SALES
CB Richard Ellis has announced the sale of 780 North Colony Road, Wallingford. The 84,000-square-foot building was purchased by Kamco Supply Corp., a lumber supply company which will utilize the building for warehouse space. Seller was Joseph T. Ryerson. William Bronson, Robert Daglio and Timothy Fegan of CB Richard Ellis handled the sale. Sentry Commercial represented the buyer. Value of the transaction was $1,585,000.
H. Pearce Co. Realtors has announced the sale of a 59,600-square-foot industrial facility on six acres of land to Bateman Properties, LLC. The property, located in the Exit 10 Industrial Park, North Haven, will be used as corporate headquarters and a warehouse/distribution center. The facility, formerly occupied by Pratt & Whitney, houses some 8,000 square feet of office space. The remaining space is warehouse, manufacturing and distribution with shipping and receiving docks. Chris Nolan and Kevin Smith of Pearce's North Haven Industrial/Commercial office represented the seller. The buyer was represented by Tom Worth of Calcagni Associates. The sale price was in excess of $1.89 million.
H. Pearce Co., Realtors announced the sale of 18 Corporate Drive, North Haven to Mauro Associates Limited Partnership. The 30,240-square-foot commercial building will be used by Town & Country Automotive Inc. as the new location for its automobile body repair business. The sale price was $1.4 million. Kevin Smith of H. Pearce Co.'s North Haven Industrial/Commercial office represented the buyer. Lynn Weed of Weed Realtors represented the seller, GEBR Meir GBR.
CONSTRUCTION
Arbonies King Vlock Architects is renovating the historic limestone-and-brick Wilbur Cross Building on the University of Connecticut's Storrs campus. The gold-domed structure, which dates from the 1930s, will house student services. The interactive lounge and waiting area will be transformed into the central point for all student-related services. The project is expected to be completed some time next year.
OR&L Construction has broken ground on a 9,000-square-foot addition to the Midstate Medical Center on Lewis Avenue in Meriden. Midstate Medical is a general acute-care medical facility, the first built in the state in 23 years. OR&L will functin as general contractor on the project.
Fire-Lite Alarms/Notifier. a division of Honeywell International, has broken ground on a 50,000-square-foot addition to its 252,00-square-foot facility at One Fire-Lite Place in Northford. The addition will be used as a training facility and expanded human resource center. In addition, the manufacturing and engineering departments will be expanded. Fire-Lite Alarms/Notifier, a Pittway company, became a subsidiary of Honeywell after the latter purchased Pittway in February. Fire-Lite Alarms manufactures fire alarms and early-detection systems, employing more than 600 workers.
