Stanley Partners With Online Seller
NEW BRITAIN - Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK) has announced that through a new alliance with TradeOut.com Inc., the company will sell excess inventories and assets to TradeOut.com shoppers. Also, Stanley Works customers will have access to the service through the company's Web site (http://www.stanleyworks.com). TradeOut.com Inc., an online site for the sale of surplus merchandise, offers an array of products including consumer goods, computers and machinery.
SBC Garners Honor From American Society on Aging
SAN ANTONIO - For its work in assisting older adults with technology, SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC) has been honored by the American Society on Aging as its Business of the Year. The group said that SBC had made a dedicated effort to educate mature adults about the use of technology and how it can have a positive impact on their lives. In one such program the company worked with local, state and national agencies to develop the Seniors Against Fraud program to educate older adults about telephone fraud.
Pitney Bowes Wins Approval For Online Postage
STAMFORD - Pitney Bowes Inc. (NYSE: PBI) announced that the U.S. Postal Service has approved the company's commercial introduction of ClickStamp Online Internet postage. The product is aimed at the small office/home office and small-business market and enables customers to download and print postage using a PC, an Internet connection and a printer for parcel post, first-class mail, express mail and priority mail.
General DataComm Rolls Out Products in Latin America
MIDDLEBURY - General DataComm Industries Inc. (NYSE: GDC) has introduced three network-access products for the Latin American market to support telecommunications in that part of the world. The products are the innovx E1 carrier-class probe for relay monitoring, the Universal Access System HDSL-2 for Internet connectivity and the DSLware 8000 DSLAM for flexibility using a single platform.
Quest in Deal With Aetna
TETERBORO, N.J. - Quest Diagnostics Inc. (NYSE: DGX) recently announced the signing of a national contract to provide laboratory services to some members of Aetna U.S. Healthcare, a unit of Aetna Inc. (NYSE: AET). The new agreement replaces several contracts of Quest Diagnostics and SmithKline Beecham Clinical Laboratories, which Quest acquired in 1999. Quest is one of several providers to Aetna of laboratory services.
GE Financial Buys Phoenix Home Life Operations
RICHMOND - GE Financial Assurance, a unit of General Electric Co.'s (NYSE: GE) GE Capital Services, announced its acquisition of the health and group life businesses of Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance Co. The deal includes Phoenix American Life Insurance Co. and Phoenix Group Services. Phoenix Dental Services will be acquired by GE Financial Assurance some time in the near future.
CuraGen Partners with Gemini
NEW HAVEN - CuraGen Corp. (NASDAQ: CRGN) announced an agreement with Gemini Genomics, PLC for collaboration in the discovery and development of diagnostic and pharmaceutical products. The two-year renewable contract will allow scientists from both companies to associate CuraGen's human genetic information with Gemini's information on disease traits.
Defense Dept. Selects Mercator
WILTON - Mercator Software Inc. (NASDAQ: MCTR) announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has chosen the Mercator Commerce Broker for use in its procurement and delivery program to manage the transactions for $13 billion in goods and services that the DoD purchases from government contractors and 10,000 vendors.
In a separate announcement, Mercator said that at its March 30, shareholders meeting the name change of the company to Mercator Software Inc. was approved and became effective April 3.
