BRANFORD - The Branford Chamber of Commerce has informed members that, as part of its comprehensive 1-95 Corridor Transporation System Program, the state's Department of Transportation is planning major road and railroad improvements. The chamber has told members that the work may affect how people conduct their business, customer traffic flow, work hours and employee commuting.
Construction is expected to continue for years. Major projects planned for the Branford area include Exit 56 off I-95, Exit 50 to the Saltonstall Bridge, the Boston Post Road and the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge. Other work involves reconstruction of East Main Street from Hamre Lane to North Main Street, reconstruction of the railroad bridge and underpass near Short Beach, intersection improvements at the Boston Post Road and Cherry Hill, Mill Plain Road and realignment of Brushy Plains Road. Route 80 works includes Notch Hill Road-Forest Road and Twin Lakes Road to Route 22, which will be widened to four lanes. Upgrades are planned for the railroad stations and the Shore Line East commuter rail service from Branford to Westbrook.
