David S. King of Woodbridge, interim dean of the Quinnipiac School of Law, has been elected chairman of the Regional Planning Commission of the South Central Regional Council of Governments (COG). The Regional Planning Commission reviews and issues advisory opinions on zoning and subdivision referrals from planning officers from the 15 cities and towns served by the COG.

Harold Pinto has been named president of Bridgeport Machines. A native of Brazil, Pinto most recently was managing director international for Textron Golf & Turf after guiding its North American sales operations as senior vice president, sales and marketing. Prior to joining Textron, from 1978 to 1989, Pinto served in various management positions with Sperry New Holland in Brazil and Ford New Holland in Pennsylvania. From 1989 to 1992, Pinto was the product director of J.I. Case Co. in Wisconsin. Pinto holds a B.A. from the Universidade Católica, a J.D. from the Universidade Federal do Parana and an MBA from the Escola Superior de Negócios, all in Brazil. He is also a graduate of the Textron Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.

John Fisher, general manager of the Shubert Performing Arts Center in New Haven, has been named executive director of the theater and vice president of CAPA, which has managed the Shubert since July. Fisher, who has been with the Shubert for four years, previously worked on the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, where he was responsible for eight Olympic villages. Before that he was the general manager of the Big Apple Circus.

Ed Lane has been hired by OR&L Facility Management of Branford to provide facilities management services for two new magnet schools in the Hartford area. Lane previously worked for Covenant Village of Cromwell. He holds a B.S. from the University of Connecticut and an M.S. from the University of New Haven.VSimplify, a web-based HR and benefits management firm located in Fairfield, has named Peter Dembrowski vice president of sales. He previously served as platinum sales director of EPIX Inc., a national PEO provider. Also, Ruth Cisero has joined the company as manager of client services. Cisero, who has been in the customer service, quality control, marketing and operations business for 20 years, previously worked at Polygram, Vestron, Warner Brothers and Allied Digital.

Peter J. Curtin of North Haven has been named development officer for the Saint Raphael Foundation in New Haven. He will assist with major gifts and coordinate the foundation's planned gifts program. Curtin previously worked as an independent fundraising consultant in North Haven and was executive director for capital campaigns at Cunneen Fundraising in Hamden. He has a bachelor's in political science from Trinity College.

Susan Lipka of Weston has been named director of operational performance in the department of finance for the Saint Raphael Healthcare System. She will be responsible for assessing current and future operational performance through implementation of a rolling budget mythology. Lipka joined Saint Raphael's in 2000 and has served as director of decision support and operations improvement. She earned her bachelor's degree in classics from Harvard and an M.B.A. from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University.

Leask & Leask, P.C., Certified Public Accountants of Fairfield have announced three appointments. Linwood C. Langs of Hamden and Vernette D. Gray of Stratford have been named staff accountants. Langs previously worked for Central Connecticut Medical Management in Bristol and Yale-New Haven Health. Gray previously worked for the Synapse Group in Stamford. Also at Leask & Leask, Anne E. Graney of Fairfield has been appointed administrator. She previously served as administrative office manager for Korn Ferry International.

Rosalyn Cama, president of Cama Inc. of New Haven, has been elected chair of the Center for Health Design, a non-profit, non-membership, research and advocacy organization who mission is to promote life-enhancing environments by demonstrating the value of evidence-base design in improving the quality of healthcare. A health-care interior designer for 20 years, Cama has been a director of the center since 1997.

Erica Woronwicz, a doctoral candidate in chemistry at Yale University, has been selected in a national competition to the 52nd annual meeting of Nobel laureates and chemistry students this summer in Lindau, Germany. She is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy for the five-day meeting, where graduate students in chemistry will hear talks by the renowned scientists and have an opportunity to ask questions.

Carole Anne Pepe has joined H. Pearce Co., Realtors' Branford office as a residential sales associate. Pepe, in the real estate field for 20 years, is an accredited Buyer Representative, Professional Standard Certification Specialist and Multi-Million Dollar Sales Associate.

Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford has announced the appointment of two new directors. Dorothea E. Brennan, senior vice president at People's Bank in Bridgeport, earned a B.A. from Loyola University and an M.A. from Fairfield Universit'sy Graduate School of Corporate and Political Communications. Steven W. Ryder, M.D. is senior vice president and director of worldwide clinical development for Pfizer Global Research & Development in New London. Ryder received his medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and completed his clinic training and board certification in internal medicine and endocrinology-metabolism at the State University of New York.
