GROTON - DiCesare-Bentley Engineers Inc. has established five one-year, $1,000 scholarships to promote the college-level study of engineering among graduating high school students in five towns along southeastern Connecticut shoreline. The scholarships will be awarded to one graduating senior on the basis of need from each of Stonington, Groton, New London, Waterford and East Lyme. The award of the scholarships will be dependent on completion of requirements for high school graduation and acceptance to an accredited engineering program at a collage or university. The Groton engineering firm has donated $10,000 toward the first two years of the scholarship program, and says it intents to continue to award scholarships beyond that. The Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut will administer the scholarship funds and selection process.
Says firm partner Bill Bentley, We are happy to be able to make this kind of contribution towards supporting the future career choices of the young people of southeastern Connecticut. And we appreciate the ease with which this can be done through the Community Foundation's scholarship programs. We look forward to learning of the qualifications of the five scholarship recipients for the graduating class of 2000 and beyond.
