PE Biosystems Inks Pact with Symyx

FOSTER, Calif. and SANTA CLARA, Calif. - PE Corp.'s PE Biosystems (NYSE: PEB) and Symyx Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: SMMX) will collaborate in the design of polymers and develop instruments and methods to screen polymers. Under the two-year agreement, Syntex will make the polymers and perform the screening process. PE Biosystems will be responsible for the development and commercialization of appropriate polymers. Syntex will receive payments for the development of polymers and for the transfer of compounds. The company will also receive royalties on commercialized products resulting from the agreement.
