WTNH Parent Gobbles Two TV Stations

| The company that owns WTNH-TV in New Haven announced an agreement last month to acquire WLFI-TV, a CBS affiliate in Lafayette, Ind., from Blade Communications in exchange for a 67-percent interest in WAND-TV, the ABC affiliate in Decatur, Ill. Under the agreement with Blade, LIN Television Corp. will oversee day-to-day operations at WAND. In a separate agreement, a corporate entity controlled by Gary R. Chapman, LIN's president and CEO, will acquire WWLP-TV, the NBC affiliate in Springfield, Mass, from Benedek Broadcasting and has granted an option to LIN to buy the station under certain undisclosed conditions. LIN presently owns nine TV stations (eight of which are network affiliates) and has marketing agreements with other stations in four of its markets, including WBNE-TV in New Haven.
