In an issue last fall in which the mavens of advertising offered their opinions on how to make New Haven work, they all had something of value to consider. Chuck Mascola's approach seemed to be hitting the solution closer to home.
As a real estate broker and one of the region's largest home-sellers, we are always amazed at the impact that Southern Connecticut State University, the University of New Haven, Quinnipiac College, Gateway Community-Technical College and Albertus Magnus College have on New Haven.
Every year professors, administrators and students move to town. Their impact is usually overshadowed by their Ivy League counterpart, Yale University. If we take the effect of all these institutions together, we have a great marketing opportunity to the outside world.
Simply put, New Haven is a college town! We should put this into a concept and market it heavily. Recently the New York Times had an article on the popularity of Richmond, Va. because it is a college town.
In New Haven, we live in a college town. Therefore we should pool our strengths, enjoy it and market it to the outside world.
