Exploring Careers With CBIA

Business New Haven
12/13/1999
By: BNH
HARTFORD - Some 1,500 high school and middle school students from across Connecticut visited manufacturing and technology companies during CBIA's Manufacturing & Technology Careers Day on November 17. More than 60 companies hosted groups of students to show them the kinds of careers available in manufacturing and technology.

"Connecticut has a rich array of manufacturing and technology industries which offer challenging and rewarding careers in fields such as biotechnology, aerospace, information technology and telecommunications, and others," said Elizabeth Gara, CBIA associate counsel. "Unfortunately, these companies are having real difficulty finding skilled workers. Part of the problem is that too few students are pursuing technical careers."

The students came from more than 60 Connecticut schools, including schools in New Haven, Middletown and Waterbury, and had the chance to talk to professionals in a variety of occupations to learn firsthand about the jobs available to all levels of graduates, from high schools through technical and college degrees
