MILFORD - The owner of a New Haven Avenue building destroyed in a February 12 fire owed the city $74,378 in back taxes at the time of the blaze, according to published reports.
First Indian River Corp. of Danbury is the owner of record of the 471 New Haven Avenue structure, home to the Xscape nightclub. The figure owed is the sum of property taxes, interest and lien fees dating to 1997. No one was injured in the fire, which consumed the entire structure.
The site had housed a restaurant for many years, before Xscape opened about five months ago. The nightclub's owner, Adam Rylski, said he was seeking alternate Milford locations to reopen his club, which features live bands and a casual bar menu. Rylski also said the back taxes on the building were not his concern, because he did not have an ownership interest in the property.
