Been waiting a lifetime for that rare-as-hen's-teeth pre-war Martin dreadnought? How about a Lloyd Loar F-5 Gibson carved mandolin?
Then hie thee to leafy Guilford. That's where luthier George Youngblood opened a guitar-building shop in the 1970s, soon branching out into the restoration and repair of fine fretted instruments.
Today he builds, repairs, sells and appraises them, specializing in acoustic instruments from classical and steel-string guitars to mandolins, banjos, fiddles and lutes. Youngblood's clientele of serious amateur and professional musicians come from all over to share an appreciation for the history, design and construction of vintage stringed instruments, and to buy and sell them, as well as new instruments from master guitar-makers like Larrivee and Santa Cruz. Youngblood also stocks a full line of strings, parts, and accessories and will ship to any location worldwide.
Arrive early in the day for a visit to YMW. You won't want to leave until the sun goes down.
