David Taylor Ives has been named executive director of the Albert Schweitzer Institute at Quinnipiac University, a non-profit organization that conducts U.S. and international programs linking education, ethics and volunteerism. Ives previously served as executive director of the Louis August Jonas Foundation and most recently worked with the Glynwood Center. He has B.A. and M.A. degrees from Ohio State University and did graduate work in Latin American history at the University of Colorado.

Carmody & Torrance Law Firm has announced that Jennifer A. Calcagni of Farmington, David M. Land of Cheshire, Kristi A. Aalberg of Rocky Hill, Karen Gano of South Windsor and Fatima Lahnin of Wallingford have joined the firm as associates. Calcagni, a member of the firm's intellectual property group, previously served as a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Arlington, Va. She is a graduate of North Carolina Central University School of Law and has a B.S. in chemical engineering from Worcester (Mass.) Polytechnic Institute. Lang is a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine Physician Associate Program and the University of Connecticut School of Law. Gano, a graduate of Smith College and the University of Connecticut School of Law, focuses on tax and estate planning and administration law. Aalberg is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University School of Law. She focuses her practice on labor and employment and other business matters for employers. Lahnin, who practices litigation and commercial and utility law, is a graduate of Connecticut State University and the Northeastern University School of Law.

Donald T. Dowdell of Wallingford has been named campaign manager of the Saint Raphael Foundation. He will be responsible for major gift development, leadership recruitment, solicitation training, prospective donor identification and evaluation. Dowdell earned his bachelor's degree in liberal and professional studies from Dowling College in Long Island, his associate's degree in aerospace technology from the State University of New York and certificates in program management from the Department of Defense Program Management School of Grumman Aerospace in New York.

James Canton has been named executive director of the Hole in the Wall Gang. Associated with the group since 1988, Canton has served as a counselor, unit leader, and assistant director for the last eight years, camp director. He has a B.A. in humanities from Stanford University and a master's in theology from Yale Divinity School.

Webster Financial Corp., the holding company for Webster Bank has announced the promotion of William T. Bromage from president to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Bromage joined Webster in 1996 as head of business banking. He was named vice president in 1997 and senior executive vice president in 1999 prior to being promoted to president in 2000. In 2000 he was also named vice president of the Webster Bank board of directors. He previously served as an executive vice president in commercial banking at the former Shawmut National Corp.

Albertus Magnus College has announced the appointment of Robert J. Buccino as vice president for advancement and planning with overall responsibility for alumni relations, communications, fundraising and strategic planning. Buccino was president of Springfield (Ill.) College and as vice president for advancement at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Ga. He was vice president for advancement at AMC from 1983 to 1995. Buccino received his bachelor's degree and master's degree from Fairfield University.

Pratt & Whitney has named Arthur Lucas senior vice president for engineering, the company's top engineering post. Lucas began his P&W career in 1970, moved to Hamilton Sundstrand and then to Bell Helicopter as vice president for research and engineering before returning to Pratt Whitney.

Angus McDonald/Gary Sharpe & Associates of Old Saybrook have named Stuart Fairbank and Matthew White partners in the firm. Fairbank, who joined the firm in 1985, is a civil engineer and geologist and chairman of the Connecticut River Estuary Regional Planning Agency. A civil engineer, White has been with the firm since 1996. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, White was previously a project engineer with Buck & Buck Engineers in Hartford.

Paul Rosenberg has joined Teikyo Post University as associate dean for distance learning. He received a B.A. from Trinity College and an M.A. from Central Connecticut State University. Rosenberg previously worked at Better Brands Inc., a division of International Multifoods, where he was responsible for corporate communications and marketing.

Douglas C. McDermott has been appointed administrator of development and community relations at the Kennedy Center in Trumbull. He received an A.B. in economics and philosophy from Hamilton College and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He previously served with the law firms of Walter, Conston, Alexander & Green and Willkie, Farr & Gallagher in New York. He also served as a staff attorney with Swiss Bank Corp., the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and Bankers Trust Corp.

Also at the Kennedy Center, Valerie Reyher of Hamden has been appointed supervisor of employment services. With the center for seven years, she previously served as clinic services and marketing manager. She earned a master's in community counseling psychology from Marist College. Reyher serves as a consultant to the state's Department of Mental Retardation as a behavioral psychology counselor at Sacred Heart University.

The Connecticut chapter of the March of Dimes has announced that Ronald Shaw, president and CEO of Pilot Pen Corp. of America has been named 2002 honorary chair for the Greater New Haven WalkAmerica. WalkAmerica will take place April 28 at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation has announced the election of Yale School of medicine Dean David Kessler, M.D. to chair its board of directors. The foundation also elected Philip A. Pizzo, M.D., dean of Stanford University School of Medicine, to serve as vice chair. Paul Glaser, who has been serving as chair of the Foundation's board for six years, is now honorary chair where he will serve as a strategic adviser.

The Connecticut Quality-Based Selection Council (QBS), has announced the appointment of Bruce King as facilitator. He will be responsible for assisting owners, municipal building committees, government agency staff, facilities managers in setting up the process of selecting a qualified design team. King has his own civil engineering practice in Cheshire. Based in Hamden, QBS is a nonprofit foundation supported by the American Institute of Architects.
