David Morris has returned from Cairo after volunteering two weeks with the Center for Quality Assurance, which he assisted in their metamorphoses from a public to private enterprise. A professor of marketing and international business at the University of New Haven, Morris conducted the project under the auspices of the International Executive Service Corps, an international management and business-development organization with more than 21,000 projects completed over the last 34 years and which provides assistance to businesses, non-profit and government agencies in 120 countries. IESC industry experts and professionals work with the public and private sectors around the world through technical and managerial assistance, technology transfers, strategic alliances and other development services.

Going for the Gold

Several area marketing firms have recently been recognized for their work. Liazon of Newtown has been awarded the REGGIE Award for its 1998 "MVPB2B" (Most Valuable Promotion business-to-business campaign) for its client, Sprint. The project took the REGGIE Award Bronze in the interactive category. BrainBug LLC was honored in the Internet/Intranet multimedia category of the 1000 Connecticut Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicator's (IABC) Bronze Quill award show. BrainBug received an award of excellence for its Web site, www.brainbug.com, and two awards of merit for Web sites developed for the Hartford Courant and the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Co. Hartford's O'Neal & Prelle was also recognized with an IABC Bronze Quill award in the category of innovative communication for a billboard created to express the agency's efforts to bring the New England Patriots to Hartford. O&P received three "Bell Ringer" public relations awards from the Publicity Club of New England (PCNE). The agency was awarded for a release concerning a fundraising event at which O&P president Michael Kintner, dressed as a six-foot hot dog, sold real wieners in Bushnell Park for charity. Cronin & Co. was also honored by PCNE with four merit awards. Cronin received 17 Connecticut Art Director's Club awards and four Health-Care Advertising Awards.
