Water, Water Everywhere
Now here's a business not for the faint-of-heart: On June 22, Survival Systems Training Inc. will unveil a new $2 million aviation and marine safety and survival training center across from Groton-New London Airport. The new facility will house what its owners call the most advanced aircraft ditching simulator in the world. The Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS) will show how personnel trained by Survival Systems to successful escape from an aircraft that has crashed into water, submerged and inverted. Survival Systems conducts training for both military personnel and civilians in water emergency and escape procedures, as well as rescue and sea-survival techniques. Bets of all, you helped pay for all this excitement via the assistance of the Connecticut Development Authority and the state's Department of Economic & Community Development.
Got Game? Get a Loan
Boston Celtics head coach and Citizens Bank pitchman Rick Pitino was in New Haven June 9 to talk about success, leadership, and even Citizens Bank (the bank of the Boston Celtics - in the Fleet Center, Pitino noted). A few tidbits of wisdom: Listen four times as much as you talk. Pressure is our friend, but stress is our enemy. Be ferociously persistent. The Celts will definitely make the playoffs next season. As for Citizens? They're nice people, Pitino allowed. If you need a loan, they'll give you a loan. If you have bad credit, they'll give you a loan. Of course, it might only be $10.
