EAST HARTFORD - A pay freeze announced for other United Technologies Corp. subsidiaries earlier in the month will also mean no pay raises for salaried workers at Pratt & Whitney, the company announced January 31. The measure affects all salaried employees in P&W's 30,000-member worldwide workforce, including almost 8,000 salaried workers in Connecticut.
P&W's more than 5,000 union workers in Connecticut will continue to receive wage hikes called for in their contracts.
The company attributes the measure in part to the aviation-industry slowdown the followed the September 11 terrorist attacks on Washington, D.C. and New York. Shortly after those events UTC announced that it would lay off some 5,000 workers in its aerospace divisions, roughly half of whom worked in Connecticut.
